The Sections

Spring/Summer Programme 2017

Tous les jeudis à 19.30

The Section meets each Thursday. There are evenings of general conversation when members are able to initiate and participate in discussions of topics as wide ranging as the sewers of Paris, the use of manure in succesful garlic cultivation and the previous evening's television.

On other dates there will be a presentation, in French, a film or an evening of entertainment in which all members are invited to participate.

The Section organised a trip to Paris in 2001 and in 2006 Nice was taken by storm! In 2010, the Section visited Bruxelles for the weekend which included the car-free Sunday on 19 September. In 2014 we made a very enjoyable return to Nice which has undergone many changes since our last visit.

The French Section is always happy to welcome new speakers. Our regular speakers always entertain and educate us but new faces are received with enthusiasm. If you think you would enjoy an evening in our company in a fairly informal atmosphere and have a presentation in French we would love to meet you. We have a digital projector and all other support equipment. Please contact our section President, Secretary (01274817209) or any member you may know.

Rocky Horror Show hits the French Circle.

Well, not quite, but on an evening when members were asked to bring an interesting object to talk about,
nothing prepared us for Pat's family treasure. Reactions ranged from revulsion to amazement when she stole the evening
with a baby crocodile preserved in a wine bottle. For non-believers a snapshots are enclosed. The said reptile was apparently purchased in Hong Kong a number of years ago.

Pat related the story of how a family member had not only drunk from one of these bottles but had actually been dared to ...(at this point for reasons of sensitivity the censors have stepped in). This brought a lot of amusement to some but Jenny needed to be revived with smelling salts. Of course if you want to hear the rest of this story you'll just have to come along to the Bradford French Circle. For Facebook readers an intriguing question is how do you get a crocodile through that narrow neck? Suggestions are welcome.
